5 stars for Staria

• Staria and Staria Load awarded 5 star ANCAP safety rating
• The highest level of safety makes Staria suitable for business and family
• Staria Load becomes the first and only commercial van to score a 5 star safety rating under ANCAP’s more stringent 2020-2022 protocols

17 December, 2021 – The Hyundai Staria and Staria Load have today been awarded the maximum 5 star safety rating by ANCAP, Australasia’s independent voice on vehicle safety.

The eight-seat Hyundai Staria people mover scored well across all areas of assessment, with full points awarded in the side impact test for both adult and child occupants and for the driver in both the full-width frontal and mobile progressive deformable barrier (MPDB) tests.

The Staria provides a comprehensive set of safety features, offering head and chest-protecting airbags, a centre airbag, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and a lane support system (LSS) as standard.

“The safety rating for the Hyundai Staria will be well received by families and fleet buyers, with the Staria becoming the third vehicle in the People Mover segment to achieve a 5 star safety rating under ANCAP’s 2020-2022 criteria – the most stringent to date,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.

The 5 star rating for the Staria also applies to the Staria Load van with automatic transmission. The Staria Load becomes the first commercial van to score a 5 star safety rating under ANCAP’s 2020-2022 protocols.

“This is a highly-anticipated result for fleets, and a significant step forward from the older generation vehicles that the Staria and Staria Load replace.”

“For so many small businesses and tradespeople their vehicle is their workplace. By providing the full suite of available safety specifications in the Staria Load, Hyundai has shown strong commitment to the safety of Australian and New Zealand road users and we expect this 5 star result will be well-received by fleets and commercial buyers.”

Hyundai New Zealand General Manager of Passenger Cars and Light Commercial, Chris Blair says, “We’re thrilled that the Staria has received the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating, and the auto Load is the first van to earn this score against the stringent 2020-2022 criteria. As a Kiwi owned company, we’re proud of the product we choose to bring in to meet our customers’ wants and needs. Safety is always a high priority when selecting our specifications.

The Staria and Staria Load are kitted out with segment-leading technology and safety features ideal for families, and van drivers who spend hours in their vehicle.”

Staria represents a bold leap forward that brings a truly competitive offering to the people mover segment, giving customers the space, freedom and flexibility for any adventure they can imagine.

The commercial Staria Load is available in either two-seat window or panel van or five-seat crew van configurations. It is front-wheel-drive only, and powered exclusively by the 2.2 diesel engine.

Customers can choose from a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed auto.

The two-seater Staria Load will be able to swallow three Euro pallets thanks to its almost 5000 litres of cargo space, and can also tow, with an ample 2500kg capacity.
