Refreshed Hyundai STARIA Range Introduces New Hybrid Option and Flagship Lounge

Hyundai New Zealand has introduced a refreshed STARIA and STARIA Load line‑up, now available with a new hybrid powertrain alongside the existing turbo‑diesel, expanding choice for both passenger and commercial customers.

Headlining the update is the introduction of the STARIA Lounge, a new premium seven‑seat variant designed to elevate the people mover experience with enhanced comfort, materials and refinement.

The update also strengthens STARIA Load’s position as a practical and efficient solution for Kiwi businesses, with the addition of hybrid complementing its proven diesel capability for urban delivery, trade and fleet use.

Hyundai New Zealand General Manager Leighton Agnew says the updates strengthen STARIA’s relevance across multiple customer groups.

“The introduction of hybrid gives STARIA broader appeal for Kiwi customers, whether it’s families or businesses looking to manage running costs,” said Agnew.

“At the same time, the new Lounge variant brings a more premium offering to the range for customers who place a high value on comfort and refinement.”

Model Line-Up Overview

The New STARIA and STARIA Load are offered with a choice of Hybrid and turbo-diesel powertrains teamed with an automatic transmission.

The STARIA is available as standard with eight seats and includes All-Wheel-Drive capability with the Limited variant whilst commercial focused Load variants feature two seats.

STARIA Lounge is the new flagship of the line-up, powered by a 1.6 T-GDi Hybrid, and featuring a premium interior in an exclusive seven seat configuration.

Exclusive premium styling and a unique 18-inch alloy wheel design set the STARIA Lounge apart, while highlights inside include Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats for the first two rows, and second-row relaxation seats.

Suede-finished headlining and pillars heighten the luxurious feel, and an acoustic laminated windshield and front door glass reduce wind noise, for maximum refinement.

The STARIA Lounge also features privacy side glass, satin chrome door handles, and deluxe door scuffs, to complete a premium package

EXTERIOR

The new STARIA and STARIA Load bring a refreshed frontal treatment featuring a sharper horizontal grille design.

The update builds on STARIA’s standout style, complete with signature front horizon light and vertical side mounted taillights, to create a futuristic and broad impression.

The new STARIA and STARIA Load bring a choice of six exterior colours:

INTERIOR

The new STARIA and STARIA Load usher in a refreshed cabin headlined by the latest 12.3” infotainment system and feature a new steering wheel design.

The STARIA Load is offered in two-seat configuration, while the previous five-seater variant is no longer available.

The STARIA people mover is offered as an eight-seater, with a seven-seat configuration exclusively reserved for the new STARIA Lounge variant.

Obsidian Black cloth trim is standard in the STARIA & STARIA LOAD with Obsidian Black Nappa leather in the Lounge variant.

POWERTRAINS

The new STARIA offers a choice of a 2.2-litre CRDi turbo-diesel or a new 1.6 T-GDi Hybrid petrol powertrain.

The diesel is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, whilst the hybrid utilises a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Both offer impressive fuel efficiency with the diesel rated from 8.1L per 100 km and the hybrid from an impressive 7.2L per 100 km.

SAFETY

Safety remains a key focus for the refreshed STARIA range, with both STARIA and STARIA Load equipped with Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance technologies.

These include Forward Collision‑Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind‑Spot Collision‑Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross‑Traffic Collision‑Avoidance Assist, helping support driver awareness in a range of driving conditions.

Additional features such as Smart Cruise Control and a comprehensive airbag system further enhance occupant protection, making STARIA well suited to both passenger transport and commercial applications.

As a result of these safety technologies, all variants of the new STARIA enjoy a 5-star ANCAP safety rating ensuring a safe environment for both occupants and other road users.

New STARIA will be available in dealerships nationwide from September 2026.
