IONIQ EV in top three at NZ Car of the Year
The Hyundai IONIQ reached the final three places of the New Zealand Car of the Year awards last evening – the first battery electric vehicle to do so.
Earlier in the evening the Ioniq took out a new category at the awards, winning the EV/plug-in hybrid car of the year.
The awards are a joint initiative between the Automobile Association (AA) and the Motoring Writers Guild and are considered the peak annual awards for the industry.
Another success for EVs/plug-in hybrids was the BMW 5 Series 530e plug-in hybrid winning the Best in Class luxury car of the year award in that category.
Stella Stocks of AA Motoring Services says the introduction of the award for EVs/plug-in hybrids recognises the rise of EVs into everyday use.
