The i20 continues Hyundai's reputation for leading safety with a 5 star ANCAP rating, the highest possible safety rating for a motor vehicle in New Zealand and Australia. The i20 safety system begins with engineering quality. Its reinforced body features a rigid cabin with front and rear crumple zones. The doors are also fitted with side impact intrusion bars for extra protection.
As a result, the i20 scored 16 out of 16 in the side impact crash test conducted to achieve a 5 star ANCAP safety rating. Pretensioners are also fitted to the front seat belts to reduce slack in the event of a crash. A three point seat belt is fitted to the centre rear seat.
