Eco-Friendly Diesel Cars
Hyundai has led the market in New Zealand for eco-friendly cars, being the first to introduce the widest range of diesel cars of all manufacturers providing, to date, thirteen model variants in the range. This has come at considerable cost to Hyundai, but is a worthy and vital investment in the eyes of the company.
Hyundai diesel cars comply with the stringent Euro4 emissions testing regime and continue to be recognised by industry standards as some of the greenest vehicles available in New Zealand.
With the introduction of government directives such as Govt3 and an ambition to work towards carbon neutrality, Hyundai has worked with government Departments, Local Bodies and significant fleets to provide fuel efficient, low emission diesel cars. This cements the ambition of the company to provide a market leading, sustainable vehicle solution.
In 2007, Hyundai conducted its own Eco-Drive to demonstrate the cost and environmental benefits of its range in real life driving conditions. During the Eco-Drive, Hyundai offset the emissions generated by planting trees along the route. This included the estimated carbon emissions of transporting the personnel to and from the drive locations. Following this in 2008, the company hosted the Hyundai Bledisloe Challenge Fuel Economy Run which ran between Christchurch and Cambridge. The company plays an active role in the Energy Wise Rally hosted every second year by EECA, the government department dedicated to energy efficiency improvements and sustainability.
As an automobile manufacturer, Hyundai internationally aims to create and develop eco cars which respect and harmonise with our planet, and reduce the overall environmental impacts of our business activities. A significant portion of the research and development budget is dedicated to raising the recyclability of the vehicles. Also, Hyundai has been implementing the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) from the production design stage to the disposal stage to better assess the total environment ramifications of vehicles.
