New Hyundai Elantra scores top safety rating

from ANCAP

The all-new Hyundai Elantra can now add a 5-star safety rating to its impressive line-up of features.

Two weeks after launching onto the New Zealand market, the Hyundai Elantra can now add a 5-star safety rating to its impressive line-up of features.

The Elantra, a compact sedan that is currently Hyundai’s best-selling car globally, has been awarded the highest safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) ANCAP is the leading vehicle safety advocate in Australia and New Zealand, providing independent advice and information on safety levels for vehicle occupants in the event of an accident. It recommends that customers only consider purchasing vehicles with a 5-star rating.

Hyundai New Zealand’s Chief Operating Officer, Tom Ruddenklau, says this latest achievement reflects Hyundai’s commitment to delivering advanced safety technology.

“Hyundai has made safety an absolute priority, however the new Elantra takes safety even further”, he says. “Not only does it have a 5-star ANCAP rating, it is the only compact vehicle in the segment with Vehicle Stability Management, which helps drivers remain in control of their vehicle during critical situations.”

The Elantra also offers Electronic Stability Programme (which incorporates a Traction Control System) six airbags which includes side curtain airbags. Other standard safety features include an Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), three point retractable seatbelts for all occupants, plus pretensioners and load limiters on the front seat belts.

A standard Hyundai safety kit with a first aid kit, fire extinguisher and high visibility vest is also included.

Since its launch, the Hyundai Elantra has picked up a range of awards, including topping the AutoPacific 2011 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards and being ranked number 1 out of 8 models in the compact sedan category by US magazine Motor Trend.
